[WarInEur] Cav Movement

Actually, I was not proposing a unilateral change to the existing countermix. What I was considering was a custom campaign in which the movement values of the cav units were increased. We could easily do this in CWIE1 and while we await the production release of CWIE2 I was creating a custom campaign and "fixing" what "I" considered to be errors in the original design. (I am aware that this is very much a subjective process and akin to having house rules and that not everyone will agree with me so that is why it is a "custom campaign").

So what I was asking for was opinions, arguments, etc in favor or against such a change. As noted in my original post the 3 movement is not working because the cav can move less hexes than regular infantry in the very terrain they were retained to exploit.

(Note- Both the Poles and Russians used Cavalry units extensively in WWI in the area we call East Poland. Maybe we should change the name to dragoons, because while they rode to battle, they rarely fought mounted. The horse was primarily a self supply means of transportation which increased mobility of the foot soldier in difficult terrain. Both countries maintained the horse mounted cav units after WWI because of their ability to move faster and ability to forage for food which reduced the supply requirements over vehicles).

Anyway, that was the purpose of the Post. To have others look at the situation and see if they are seeing the same things I am seeing or if I am blowing smoke, delusional, or just confused.

LOL

Sounds like a post production, cwie2 2.0.0 item to me.

I would like to lift the whole unit max concept anyway, to allow the Germans to build lots of surfs, amphs, and trans

I have to wonder if the unit max was determined more by historical research or by the more mundane limits they reached on the number of counters they could fit on a sheet and what they guessed was the most likely mix they thought folks would use.

I am not sure changing the cav movement is a good thing, as another email suggested, once we change this, it opens a whole range of other questions on other movement values..

  Carl
