Kent,

I agree that the Polish IRP only applies to the campaign scenarios but it should be added to both the WiTW and WiE campaign scenarios.? The game starts with the Russo German Non Aggression Pact in place (see DG Rule 40) and?with Germany and Poland already at war (see DG Rule 42.1 and 43.16).? Those two facts alone entitle the Soviets to occupy the eastern part of Poland regardless of how hard the Germans prosecute the land war against Poland. Rule 45.51, the?rule that authorizes the?Russians to invade?Poland on 1/10/39 states that?Warsaw and Poland may not have fallen by then.?

Okay! I see your point but scholdn't this be an add on to the 1939 campaign rather than the scenario? And what happens with the Russians if the Germans don't prosecute the war? Is the pact null and void? Do the Russians move in on schedule or wait till Warsaw falls as a new trigger?

?

I'm still left with more questions than answers. Any other responders? Ian I know your lurking out there.? Why did we add the Polish IRP?

?

Kent

I have a feeling you will find that this was introduced to add a complication...a further consideration shall we say...to the Axis manoeuvre which took them out of the initial scope of the simulation.

Tactic...

Sit on your hands in the east (despite having just committed troops across the Polish frontier and thereby triggered WW2,
and thrown all your forces immediately at the French front, indulging in an late fall strike, and an early winter campaign in the west.

There wasn't really much of a downside to this equation...

The Poles could not really launch a counter offensive,
and if left on the vine ...were not going to get any stronger...

You got several good weather strike turns at a weaker French position, secured the channel ports with a prospect of repairs and an immediate sealion in 1940

The added bonus is..with changing unit strength options, a dicey proposition for the French.

Adding the repl points gives the Poles a stronger position if the Germans leave them alone, and gives the German commander a small downside,? and a factor to consider. It did not require any revisions to the counter manifest, and it only needed a slight alteration to the rules...

The logical absurdity being...why would Germany stall a perfectly good attack against Poland and reorientate itself to the Western front, sacrificing the? prospect of a decisive fall campaign clearing one front of a two front war, just to try for a dodgey fall campaign (as repeatedy held to be the case by OKW)? Allowing the poles to use this breathing space to good effect, gave some extra imponderables to manage if you chose to go down this road.

Because of the lack of research data, there wasn't any readily available data on how the Polish war economy would have got into gear and what additional formations they could have raised given a 6 month breathing space.

Similarly the terms of the Pact with Russia, made possible alternative deployments for the Soviet war machine also very problematic..

Double checking the scenario setups for CWIE2 and have a question.? The DG [S1.0] Poland scenario has a line that says "Poland receives 1 infantry replacement per strategic cycle beginning 11/39."

?

I have two problems with this. One in the scenario there is no strategic cycle.? Two, if Poland survives until 4-10-39 (the turn before the 11/39 strategic cycle) then the Axis has already lost because the scenario is over 2-10-39.

?

I can maybe see the IRP being included in the 1939 Campaign game, but even then it needs to arrive earlier than 0-11-39.

?

Anyone have any thoughts?? The IRP in question was added during the DG revision and is not part of either the SPI or CWIE1 versions.

?

Thanks

?

Kent
