Precisely

More problematic than this...
:-)

If you choose to run,
can you?

As you run the 1-4 is less mobile than a 10-8,
As you run your fatigue level rises and eventually your speed of retreat
also starts to drain away
As your fatigue level gets extreme,
you also start to lose key defensive functions,
such as the zoc.

Yes, you are seeing the implications on having reserves, and strategic
implications of required covering forces for a headlong retreat....

But you also have to guard against the fact that your bright shiny new
1-4 screen is at fraction of its combat value,
so may not stop an onrushing Panzer force...i.e. a 1-4 at 90% attrition
is likely to be overrunable by just about anything that bumps into it,
that is anywhere near full strength and efficiency.

The 'simple' retreat, now becomes something of a complex art form...
The 'hustling advance' no longer simply comes to grief at the limit of
supply as the new reserves flood into the line.
The balance of force projection now does not have huge steps as you
cross the boundaries of various supply states.

Look at it logically...
You could say...

The fortified unit augments the defenders other units...

So they are the key issue, are they attritted?

The At unit, is a unit like any other....so its combat value (defense
only) is subject to attrition. This has implications....

A 0-1-10 at 90% fatigue, has a defensive value of 0.1
So a 10-8 in supply attacking it , although halved, now can pack a real
punch on the crt.

Yes it can..depending on your preferences/options chosen...

The fatigue/attrition on an msu causing supply problems can be
rationlised thus...

The MSU represents the M/T park.
The MT park is the enabling factor in the tonnage lift of supplies
forward, that are relying on non organic logistics capabilities.

If your M/T park has now suffered a reduction in size due to wear and
tear plus casualties,
so the potential tonnage lift capability shrinks.

If the tonnage lift shrinks,
the quartermaster now has a choice...

Carry less to the destination,
or maintain the tonnage lift,
by more intensive utilisation of what he has left,
i.e. Don't send the trucks so far,
so they can increase their sortie rates from the dumps etc etc.
But the distance over which they can support the standard required
tonnage falls.
