Unfortunately the account does not give credit to the air power factor in the 44 battles. I would think it went along way towards grounding the germans ability to move, thus giving the speed advantage over to the allies. Then add to that the upper command stupidities that did not allow retreats in time and you have the massive losses.
He also does not speak of the organizational differences and I believe those went along way towards giving the Germans an initial advantage. Thus early on with weaker tanks then their opponents they were able to dominate yet when they had the better tanks, ie. Pather and Tigers they lost because the tactical flexablity went away through a combination of loss of speed because of air suppression and command control issues in the no retreat standing orders. Fighting a mobile battle without mobility leads to defeat everytime. The one exception is when the defender has enough resources to bleed the attacker dry.
The confusion of battle for the allies came for the speed factor, as the Germans slowed down the allies became faster in being able to react and it was the Germans who began to not be able to react in time.
