[WarInEur] More on France 1940

I don't think anyone is suggesting the possibility of Axis manipulation of the PP Total. I believe the suggestions dealing with political points were trying to incentify the Allied player to commit the BEF to defend France in reasonable numbers without requiring him to do so. With 20/20 hindsight it is easy to see that France is doomed no matter what Britian does and the BEF would be better spent invading Norway or Lybia as soon as the Italians are activated. However, there would have been real world consequences if Britain hadn't. Just what the consequences would have been is open to debate. If the Allies make a historical commitment then there are no changes in the current political point levels, but if they ignore the issue then there should be some type of penality. The only alternative would be to insist on some type of historic rules, which would be difficult to code and ignored in most cases anyway. Also anything we are talking about is Optional.

I'm suspicious of anything allowing the possibility of Axis manipulation of the PP total, because of the Spain/Turkey (Remember, didn't happen) issue. Far better the other suggestion of using the Air/Sea interdict table (Which kills the occasional air point too!) to "Bomb" production. This will give the Axis an incentive to Fly with Less on air superioirty, and the CW a similar incentive to contest.

Oh my, the Blitz goes on and on....

I kind of like the air superiority/supremacy scheme better. Because it not only deals with the political points, but also forces both sides to commit to the air war (and thus not just store up scads of planes). I think it would be easy enough to implement in both formats. For the board game, every turn for the 10 weeks that one side has twice as many planes flying as the other (or one side has some and the other has none), mark it as a point towards "winning the battle of Britain". Maybe you make it that if the Germans "win the battle of Britain" then some of the sea lion aspects kick in, to give both sides a further incentive to participate.

The problem with taking away the political points is who cares. Unless enough political points are on the table to activate Spain/turkey and as long as you get to the magic number of 60, anything else is a don't care.

As to the Battle of Britain, perhaps designating a period of time from the
fall of France in which if the Germans gain air superiority or air supremacy
X number of turns, they get a PP bonus. If the allies get superiority or
supremacy Y times then PP bonuses are deducted. This would promote an "air
war" which would be pretty meaningless in geographical terms, but would have
the political impact. The side that fails to fight the air war (or fights
and loses) takes an impact on PP.
...Or to simplify this a bit more into terms that can be implemented in both formats...

You have 10 weeks after the fall of Paris in which to occupy London for the bonuses...if this does not take place you lose the bonuses for France again..., perhaps 1pp per cycle, as the effect wanes...
