Subject: [WarInEur] WiE Soviet Production and the real world event

I am reading Barbarossa to Berlin a day to day account of the war.

Nov 30:

Red Army had 59 rifle and 17 cav divisions in reserve and also 219
divisions on the front lines for a total of 295 divisions. This is at
the end of the German assault on Moscow. Total strength is listed at
4,1,96,000 men, 32,194 arty, 1984 tanks and 3688 aircraft. I assume the
men include all arms like navy and airforce otherwise the divisional
strengths would be to high and there are no lists of brigades etc for
tank or mech units.

Now I would venture to guess that the average sov player has no where
near this number of troops on the map at any time during the 1941
campaign. Say 20 or so 4-4s at 4 divisions on the map 80 divisions total
and maybe 50 rows of 3 units defending in quickstep style and you have
150+80 or 230 divisions total. And thats with perfect play that does not
allow a minsk pocket at the start, a Kiev pocket later on or a Moscow
pocket at the start of Typhoon.

Huge Soviet losses historically and they still have almost 300 divisions
at the ready, try playing with a Russian no retreat rule during summer
of 1941 and see how many divisions you have available!!!! Because they
did so historically as Stalin would not allow retreats and it cost him
millions of men!

The game WAY under models soviet ability to turn out infantry divisions
and one has to wonder why. I think its partly to do with the OOS
attacker effects and partly to do with no stupidity rules for Stalin in 41.

I just hope at some point down the road for version III of CWIE this can
be looked at to overhaul the system to fix a lot of the non historical
things that exist in this game.

I don't care what is viewed as pro or anti either side, I am PRO HISTORY!

Oh if you don't have this book its a great read for day to day events.
If I can get a good copy of the WiE map I hope to plot the historical
advances and produce a day to day hex control map one day.
