Hello All,
Since Murmansk is as far as the convoys could go (due to ice), and the only
real way to move the majority of the supplies from the port was via rail, it
would seem imperative for the Russians to keep control of the rail lines.
Adding this requirement, as well as giving the Finns the extra reach to
occupy any unprotected rail hexes, would ensure the Russians keep units up
north to garrison the area as they did ITRW. If they didn't and the Finns
moved to the rails, the Murmansk points should be lost (not just delayed)
for the turns they do not have control of the rail.
I say "lost" because, in my opinion (not backed up by anything but common
sense deduction) the Allies were already balancing supplies between the
needs of their own forces and those of the Russians. If they knew the
supplies to Russia weren't going anywhere but to the depots of Murmansk,
they would have wanted to reroute supplies to their own forces where they
would have done more good.
This makes for a very stiff penalty for gaming the Arctic Front.
