As an aid to playing BWIE cwie was an excellent way to go forward.

The problem for many , is...

We don't have the space, where we once set up..
we don't have the time, where once we spent afternoons setting up the
counters on the map
we don't have the locations and lifestyles that let us get together on
a regular basis

Thecomputer allows these issues to be 'sorted' in a way.
but it also relieves us of a lot of bookkeeping,
and drudgery...

And the fact that it is so damned good at all that work, has made the
temptatation to go that little bit further irresistable...

Fog of War
supply calcs
ownership of hexes, etc etc.

So, inevitably, the game is not /exactly/ a carbon copy, but much more a
carbon copy with add ons that help us to play much easier, and add ons
that we'd always wanted but simply could not afford the time and the
sheer brain capacity to cope with on a paper game with only 2-5
individuals attempting to work (double blind play).

That the game was a modding tool in the grand old days is evidenced by
the multiplicity of house rules that people were always trying out, and
developing.

It was very simple,
it was very easy to play,
and adding the odd bit of chrome,
was a major sport amoungst BWIE players I knew in those days...

So long as such things are added as options, no harm is done. So long as
the core game can still be played, there is no problem.

But with a game of this age, with many veterans having played out most
if not all variations on the theme. A few ?(but only a few) more
wrinkles now will do much to reinvigorate the model, and the enjoyment
of a re-exploration of an old and trusty favourite...

But a classic game, all options off, is always the purists dream, and
provided we can achieve that, then there can be little criticism...
