Random options?
WOW, what a cool way to play? Learning the effectiveness of the enemies
forces in the field.
NO WAY: Since the computer might skip the wrong ones,
YES BUT--what if the the computer set the duration of certain options
according to random number
generation?
John:
I can see the options turning on and off for certain periods of time and
even for individual moves.
As an example, imagine the blitz ZOC. You make your move. You push the
button to go on to the next phase. The computer roles the virtual dice and
determines that all or some of the units get the blitz ZOC. The additional
movement points they could have made are added to their current movement so
they can continue moving (potentially). Thus, the player doesn't know if he
will get to move further, but the "friction" of war is decided in his favor.
The extra hex or two is achieved when not thought possible.
For a sea lion, you might turn it into a form of weather. An exceptional
calm comes over the channel. If you have assembled the river and coastal
shipping and have air superiority, you can 'lunge' across the channel. Will
you be able to supply them the next week? It depends on the weather.
I agree with you that what options get randomized and in what combination
needs to be carefully thought out.
