accurate.....
The option "Limits on MSU in severe Climate" affects the ability to link
more than one MSU in severe weather. Is that the only rule that this option
controls?
The S.W.E. build option - what severe weather effects does that build
remove?
I am curious because when you do not select the Limits option you do not get
the S.W.E build option. Do those two options exactly counter act each other
or does the Axis player get some extra advantages by selecting Limits and
then building S.W.E?
>From what I am seeing, and remember I do not even begin to claim to be an
expert, that if you select the Attrition option the severe weather effects
(the shorter supply range particularly) become overwhelming, even if
Eastern Poland starts the invasion of the USSR with European gage.
I like the attrition effect - it only makes sense that units face a rapid
loss of combat power simply by having to continuously being on the move, not
even considering constant combat. During the 1941 campaign, even without
combat, a Mech unit gains 8 points of attrition (4 in init move and 4 in
Mech move) which after 7 weeks will degrade the unit by more than 50%. This
does not even include another 4 points for each attack and for each advance
after combat. Operational pauses become a necessity.
Also consider that an MSU moving forward as fast as it can (2 hexes per
turn) will also gain 8 attrition points per turn and if it does not pause to
regroup it will also start losing Supply range after about 7 turns. ( BTW -
I did just notice that there is an option in the attrition setup to limit or
not limit MSU range I assume this means that if it is not clicked an MSU
will maintain full range even at high attrition).
IMOHO I believe that the loss of combat effectiveness on the long march into
Russia may take the place of the 1st winter kludge rules needed to keep the
Axis in some kind of realistic leash. I know the roads were bad going into
Russia but I think the Germans greater issue was that there were so many
miles of those roads they had to ride.
I know the other first winter effect was not being prepared for the harsh
winter weather. I have to wonder how much of a real effect this has on an
operational level.
I would like to have the option to be able to play the game with the
Attrition option but also without all of the Special First Winter rules
(shorten supply line, only one MSU in supply line - already an option,
losing one 6-5 per turn - is that even still in the game?).
