Brian,
I did a write up of my first operational sceanrio in Arctic Convoy that you
can find on BGG
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/377529/operational-secenario-1-first-convoy
The U-Boats had a field day in my game, apparently scoring far more success
than they did historically. Some of the guys who commented on my session
report discussed that and included some links to other excellent U-Boat sites.
You might want to check it out.
Also, if you are not familiar with SWWAS, they do have a pretty good set of
mechanisms for handling searches without an umpire. Basically everything is
on the board, so the player can see it, but your units have to pass various
die rolls to be able to "see it" themselves.
I'd be curious to hear about peoples experience with PQ-17. I saw a prototype
at consimworld almost 5 years ago and was interested, but never got to try it.
