In the 1970s when my father was in the USN war college I read a book by a 
Japanese participant.  I am guessing this was Michio Fuchida (lots of hits 
on his book from the 1950s, I think that's it).  He had a lot to say about 
the build up and details of the decision to split the fleet, not just the 
main battle itself.  Of course I don't remember all of what I read then, 
but my question would be what does the new book have to say from the 
Japanese side that Fuchida didn't?  One of the reviews did mention Fuchida 
but then didn't give any review beyond "pick this up and read it".

I'm reading Peoples History of the Vietnam War now so it would be a while 
before I could get into anything else...
