In the 1970s when my father was in the USN war college I read a book by a
Japanese participant. I am guessing this was Michio Fuchida (lots of hits
on his book from the 1950s, I think that's it). He had a lot to say about
the build up and details of the decision to split the fleet, not just the
main battle itself. Of course I don't remember all of what I read then,
but my question would be what does the new book have to say from the
Japanese side that Fuchida didn't? One of the reviews did mention Fuchida
but then didn't give any review beyond "pick this up and read it".
I'm reading Peoples History of the Vietnam War now so it would be a while
before I could get into anything else...
