The other big effect is attrition - a force is much more likely to take a
step loss if the supply is low.
As for play, it's actually very quick. Especially in the early turns, there
is no real chance for air battle, as Rabual units can't hit south of the
island, and US based units can't provide CAP until Henderson is operational.
That won't happen until turn 6 at best.
After two turns both sides have a number of naval step losses due to surface
and air strikes. No air has been lost, but the Japanese lost a TRANS point
to transport attack. They really can't afford that.
The IJN landed one land unit, the US 5. Both are low supply, but the US can
hope tofix that next turn. The Japanese lost all but one INF unit on the
Island, and Henderson is under repair with the CB units on the field.
Lots of US VPs, but then it's only mid August :)
