I have a large number of the PZ games - East Front, Battle of the Bulge,
Beyond Normandy, Heros of SU, Airborne.
I have to confess, I do indeed like it. There are some things I do not like,
and others that could be better explained in the rules, but in general it
gives a very good game.
It really DOES reward a good plan, and good use of terrain, as a game at
this level should. Leaders are very key, you can't advance against the enemy
without them, you can't have multiple hexes fire on one hex without a good
leader. Rank matters as well, as you can have "chain" activation if you have
your leaders set in rank order.
I wish INF was a little stronger against tanks, especially in 1943 and
later - INF still needs to close assault tanks to do anything, and I dont
think PG generates the fear tankers had of going into close terrain with no
INF support.
But the role of Artillery and mortars is well shown, and fire and maneuver,
done well, is rewarded.
If you want to try it, be sure to get a later edition of the games - the
newer Eastern Front has more boards than the older one. I will admit to
lusting after the France 1940 PG game......
