Yeah, well I am sorta embarrased to even consider A&A, but the minatures int
he ads looked nice and since I'm gathering A&A is a brand name for all sorts
of wargames that bare only the slightest resemblence to the orginal (sorta
lika all car toys are now Hot Wheels) I was hoping somebody who knew the
system would say something like:
A&A Naval Minatures is a fast playing, reasonably accurate, easy to learn,
great fun way to spend a couple of hours. Kids love it, non-wargamers are
immediately hooked by the attractive minatures and although you certainly
don't get the detail of a proper wargame, you do still have enough of the feel
for this to be perfect solution when you're in the mood for fast and furious.
But alas, nobody is saying that.
"even the APL games would be better..." Ouch. I still want to try SOPAC
someday, even if just to confirm your opinion (which I have found in the past
to be well founded) Smithsonian Guadalcanal languishes on my shelf alogn with
its cousin Midaway because when I want to play I reach for Flat Top and CV.
Those two Smithsonion games occupy a very deadly spot on the
complexity/fun/realism curve, too simple for my taste, too hard for my son.
Well, still looking, and thanks for your thoughts
