Although not new, I still think the best approach was done in the "Close
Combat" series of games.  The first one was a bit of a clunker, and you may
find incompatibility with newer operating systems.  The best was CC2 (Market
Garden).  CC3 (Russia) was not bad.  CC4 (Bulge) was disappointing.  CC5
(Normandy) is the second best.
