[Consim-l] Computer games (was: Analysis of Coral Sea)

Yep, pretty much my experince as well. Had a submarine game (688) that was
exactly the flitting from station to station Hjalmar mentions. Loved it
anyway, tense situation, relativily easy interface (once I memorized the
function keys) and so immersive that my wife reports I used to talk out loud
to me crew members!

I have a couple of tank games, same thing, need to be commander, driver and
gunner all at once. Does not work for me, probably because I don't like it
enough to memorise the function keys so the immersion factor is lost while I
flip through the player aid chart looking for the keystrokes that will swivel
turret left.

I've tried platoon or company level games, don't work for me at all. Usual it
it the interface that bothers me, endless menus and lists and I never get past
the mechanics of making the damm thing work to enjoy the tactics of what I'm
trying to do. Shrug.

But I still think computers/consoles can/should be superior for tactical "you
are there" kind of things, like dogfighting with a plane. So, still hoping
for some suggested titles, preferably for the XBox
