[Consim-l] DTP: How to make counters?

I've never done this, but I thought about it and here's what I came  
up with.

Stickers.....

There's got to be sticker sheets (like those self adhesive labels)  
that can be used. I know some are one big 8 1/2 x 11 sticker. Print  
on it, cut it into smaller pieces and stick that on blank counters.  
Those are (or were) readily available.
